Minecraft Diamond Location Method, Beginners Say: “It’s Like Hitech!”

Last time, I explained how to identify diamond locations by the shape of clay blocks in swamps. Many adventurers said that swamps are really hard to find—is there a better method? This time, I’ll teach you an even simpler method: the Lapis Lazuli Diamond Location Method!

Similar to the principle behind using clay blocks to find diamonds, lapis lazuli and diamonds also generate within the same chunk, following a certain pattern.

This method has over a 70% success rate in the Bedrock Edition, and is 100% effective in the Java Edition for versions 1.12 and above.

First, let’s look at the Bedrock Edition. First, we need to find a naturally generated lapis lazuli ore vein.

Then, with this lapis lazuli as the center, find the direction that is north.

Some adventurers might ask, how do you find north?

In the Bedrock Edition, there’s a very interesting feature to show you. As shown in the image, when you place a torch in a two-block-deep hole, if you try to place another torch in the same spot, the torch will appear on the side of the block above. The direction this side faces is always West!

Once you find West, you can naturally find the other directions!

After finding North, count three blocks to the north, then dig straight down to the layers where diamonds can generate. Within this area, diamonds will exist!

Look! A large cluster of diamond ore, generated on the same layer as this lapis lazuli vein!

After verifying the feasibility in the Bedrock Edition, let’s check the Java Edition.

Similarly, find a lapis lazuli ore vein.

The torch direction-finding method doesn’t work in the Java Edition, so let’s use another trick!

Did you know that sunflowers, when placed on dirt, always face East? This determines the east direction. Then, using the rule of ‘North up, South down, West left, East right,’ we can easily find North~

Next, we count three blocks to the north and dig straight down.

As you can see, the diamond ore is also very close, just not far below the lapis lazuli ore!

There’s one scenario with this method that requires a shift in thinking. Let’s find another lapis lazuli vein using Spectator mode.

Then, let’s apply our method.

We count three blocks north and dig down.

This time, we almost dug out the entire area near the bedrock below but didn’t see a single diamond.

What’s going on?

The principle is actually simple. The in-game world is composed of numerous chunks, and each chunk is a 16*16 area. If you go beyond this area, you are judged to be in another chunk.

And the Lapis Lazuli Diamond Location Method only works within the same chunk.

At this point, we need to return to the lapis lazuli ore location, count 13 blocks to the south, and then dig straight down! This aligns with the diamond generation(pattern) within a single chunk.

Look, lovely diamonds appear!!

Looking at the cross-section, you can also see the positional relationship between the lapis lazuli ore and the diamonds.

Alright, that’s all for today’s lesson on the “Lapis Lazuli Diamond Location Method”!
